Criticism Containing Books Max

FINALLY finished this! I've been trying on and off for over 5 months. There are so many disgusting things about this book, that I did not enjoy reading it at all, but finally by the end it became more compelling, and I wanted to find out what happened to the main character. Definitely well-written, in that it depicts the horrors of Nazi Germany in a believable way, through the eyes of a child. Ugh.

Review coming. Actually a solid book, creepy and awful, but creepy and awful in the same ways as the historical setting it describes. There is a fine balance in how explicit to make such descriptions (Octavia Butler talked a lot about this related to her novel Kindred, about African-American slavery) and I think especially toward the end, Max wobbled in this respect, but I still got through it very fast.
