يعرض هذا الكتاب لفكر الفيلسوف وعالم اللغة والمنظر السياسي الأمريكي "نعوم تشومسكي" المولود في 12.7.1928 في فيلادلفيا. يقول مؤلف الكتاب أن هناك شخصيتين لتشومسكي: أحدهما تشومسكي عالم اللغويات والثاني تشومسكي الفيلسوف السياسي الذي وجه انتقادات عنيفة لكل أنواع الظلم الإجتماعي الموجود في العالم يعتقد تشومسكي أن هناك مَلَكَة لغوية فطرية في الذهن البشري, وأحد جوانب تلك الموهبة يتألف من مجموعة من المبادىء التى تشترك فيها اللغات جميعاو وهى التى أطلق عليها إسم : النحو العالمي الشامل

It was alright. tbh I don't think it's very accessible to someone who hasn't heard much about linguistics in general or Chomsky in particular before.

An 'introducing' book should be accessible, this isn't. Uses complex language and moves through difficult concepts too fast with little time spent explaining them

A nice introduction to complex linguistic ideas such as universal grammar, i/e-language, and deep structure. I confess I spent some sections of the book re-reading and wishing it was a reddit 'explain it to me like i'm 5' interactive forum instead.

Didn't finish it. Didn't like it. No structure to hold onto.

I've liked all of the other "Introducing..." books I've read, but I couldn't get into this one (which is why it took me two months to read!). I read this because of my interest in linguistics, and there was about as much content about Chomsky's politics as there was about his work in linguistics. The whole book felt unorganized.

A clear,condensed explanation of Chomsky's linguistics.The section on his politics provides an insightful critique of capitalism and American policy.
