Ever pick up a book you're in the middle of and start reading it just to finish the fucker? That's where I was at with this. This is a pleasant surprise, a scifi novel that doesn't take itself serious. This is a light-hearted novel about Jim diGriz, a thorough rogue who lives high on a vacation planet. He is suddenly plagued by a problem Jim believed he had put behind him; his low-life cousins and their hoards of porcuswine. They show up in a hired spaceship. Not allowed to disembark from the spaceship on the planet, Jim has to find someplace to take the cousins and their animals. Jim and his wife Angelina travel

I had read one prior Rat book (where he wound up in the army) which was quite funny. This one is a late one in the series, where the Rat has retired from his life of outwitting the honest and stupid, but is prevailed upon by a distant cousin to help him find a planet to which he, his friends/family and his flock of porcuswine (hybrid of porcupine and swine)can emigrate. So begins a long space journey, hopping from one possibly congenial planet to another in their quest. It was a lot of fun.

This book was fabulous. It was a much better way to end the series than the last book. Thank you Harry!Also try the audiobook, the cd has chapters every minute or so which makes it much easier to listen to.

This was a struggle. Slippery Jim diGriz is one of my favorite serialized characters, but this book may have been one too many in the series. I would read a chapter and then feel no compunction to continue. I'm not sure what was more off-putting, the ignorant cousins, the return of porcuswine, or the dimness of Jim himself. The weakest element of the book, for me, is its episodic nature. However, it improved significantly once they reached the planet named Salvation. Probably interest will be

A very average novel but because I have so much emotional baggage tied up in the adventures of the Rat it was still quite enjoyable and good fun.

This is classic Stainless Steel Rat. Jim is put in a crazy situation that he has to find a way out of so he can go back to his comfortable routine. In this case, it's relocating his former family, a group of Porcuswine farmers, to a new planet. The book works its way into a sort of Gulliver's travels and covers the issues of religious intolerance and racial intolerance, but with the usual farce and satire famous in the Stainless Steel Rat books.*SPOILER* I found it interesting at the end, that
